Food as a Language

“The kitchen's a laboratory and everything that happens there has to do with science. It's biology, chemistry, physics. Yes, there's history. Yes, there's artistry. Yes, to all of that. But what happened there, what actually happens to the food is all science.”

-Alton Brown

The WIDE campus believes in developing the whole child, which includes food – food that is consumed and food as language for countless academic studies. Our lunches and snacks are made from scratch, often utilizing fresh herbs from classroom gardens, and the school lunch menu is largely organic and we use local produce whenever possible. We focus on providing the children with a balanced, clean meal. We also assist them in trying new foods, table manners, serving themselves, etc. We believe in children learning autonomy and snack/lunch time is a perfect opportunity. Children serve themselves, help to clean up, and work together during our family style meal times.
